Enormous respect to Edward Hodgson and Hugo Smyly who undertook the Olympic Triathlon in Barcelona on 7th October for the Lt Dougie Dalzell MC Memorial Trust and incredibly raised over £10,000 (including GA).
This challenge was inclusive of a 1.5 km swim followed by 40 km bike and then a 10 km run. I am going to be plagiarising their Justgiving page now but can't do better. Starting their training at the beginning of July, they were seen hopping, skipping and jumping into the Lidos for a 6.30 am dip in (fortunately) glorious sunshine and mounting their bikes for an evening burst round Richmond Park. As the day drew nearer the days were shorter, the water was fresher, the Park was dark, the training was relentless and their muscles were in their own words: "massive (!!)"
They admit to being fairly reluctant ‘athletes’, who grasped inspiration from Dougie’s "immense application, passion and dedication as a person as well as the prospect of supporting the Dalzell family and the amazing work of DDMT".
But on Sunday they DID it - finishing brilliantly more than half way up the field, with a solid group of supporters present and the most amazing financial total. The DDMT team is humbled and grateful. THANK YOU both so much.
We would love to hear from you if you know of any soldier (whether current or past), family member or any project that might benefit from our help.
