February 2018: Donation of £5000 to Support Wounded Veterans for their Skihabilitation Programme
Supporting Wounded Veterans (SwV) is a well-established charity, that helps mentally and physically wounded veterans get back into occupation, training and employment. A Skihabilitation Week is followed by a Mentoring Programme and/or an Employment Programme. At the time of writing 89% of Veterans remain engaged with their mentor for over a year and 87% are now successfully in full or part-time Employment/Training or Occupation.
Regarding the Skihabilitation Programme Supporting Wounded Veterans write:
"Paralympic sport is a proven, potent medium for confidence-building. Adaptive skiing enables the “disabled” to level with the “able” in a way that few other sports can. As one of our injured veterans puts it: “With my walking stick, I’m an invalid, but in skis, I’m just another person.” SwV has so far helped almost 100 veterans to transform their lives."
Veterans are taken for a ski week in Klosters, which provides mental motivation and the confidence to restart their lives and return to the work place. In addition, many Veterans are isolated by their circumstances and this week provides a welcome opportunity to engage with others.
Hundreds of applications are received each year from Veterans desperate to go on the ski week but funding can only support 28. DDMT is delighted to be one of the funders.

We would love to hear from you if you know of any soldier (whether current or past), family member or any project that might benefit from our help.
